SCSI / NVMe Translation (SNT) Standard in Development

The INCITS/SCSI Technical Committee in collaboration with NVM Express Corporation proposes a new project for SCSI /NVMeTM Translation (SNT) development.

This project is intended to develop a new National Standard to standardize a translation of commands and related information that expresses SCSI command transactions in the form of NVMe command transactions. Work in developing SNT will take place in the INCITS/SCSI technical committee.

There is a large SCSI infrastructure that integrates a variety of device interface types, for example, Fibre Channel, SAS, and SATA. SNT will expand the interface types that support SCSI to include NVMe. There are a number existing SCSI to NVMe infrastructures that are vendor specific. This project is intended to provide manufactures with a standardized behavior for SCSI infrastructures to communicate with NVMe devices.

It is anticipated that on approval as a national standard, the standard will have a useful life of over ten years. Notice of the newly approved SNT project has been announced in ANSI Standards Action where new consensus body members are solicited. NVM Express and NVMe are registered and unregistered trademarks of the NVM Express Corporation. NVM Express TM copyrights are relevant to this project.
