INCITS/Cloud Computing Technical Committee leads the way for new international standards!

INCITS/Cloud Computing leads the way to develop much needed international standards for cloud computing. The INCITS/Cloud Computing Technical Committee serves as the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the international Subcommittee for Cloud Computing and Distributed Platform under the ISO and IEC’s Joint Technical Committee on Information Technology (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 38).

At their September 2023 Plenary meeting in Washington D.C., four new projects were approved and the revision of an existing standard. Two of the new projects, as well as the revision projects will be led by primary editors that are members of INCITS/Cloud Computing.

The two new projects that will address trustworthiness in cloud computing, and cloud service customer business continuity & resilience are:

  • ISO/IEC PWI 11034, Information technology — Cloud computing — Trustworthiness in cloud computing, and
  • ISO/IEC PWI 20996, Information technology — Cloud computing — Cloud service customer business continuity and resilience.

ISO/IEC 19941:2017, is the international standard on cloud computing interoperability and portability that will be revised to address technology changes to cloud computing since its 2017 publication and adds the concept of switching to its scope.

Interested in getting involved? The best way to participate in this and other standardization activities is to join the technical committee, INCITS/Cloud Computing.

INCITS/Cloud Computing addresses standards across multiple areas, including but not limited to:

  • Cloud Computing
  • Distributed Platforms
  • Edge Systems
  • Data (including Sharing, Portability, Categorization, Flow, etc.)
  • Service Level Agreements
  • Interoperability
  • Digital Sovereignty
  • Foundational standards such as terms, concepts, and reference architectures
